Missing

Napa Valley! I just arrived home from a two week road trip down the Oregon Coast to northern California. Full post coming soon. We camped while in Oregon and visited Napa, San Francisco, and Santa Cruz. I had hope to make it further down the coast but last minute decided to book some extra days in Napa for some R&R and it was worth it!

In the moment

Sitting in Starbucks after hitting up the Seattle library, waiting for the wait time at the DMV to shorten so I can get my Washington state license! I'm finishing up errands and getting organized before I go back to work tomorrow. I feel rejuvenated after taking more than two weeks off of work. Mentally and physically I was starting to feel burnt out, and this trip was a great way to focus on the moment.

Looking forward to

Fall! I know, I know, if one more girl starts talking about pumpkin spice lattes... I may be the anomaly but I don't like pumpkin flavored coffee (gasp!). The season of fall has always signified a fresh start for me. Even though I'm not in school any more, the change in weather and all the scents that come with it feel invigorating and comforting. I've been leaving the windows and doors open since I've been home, lighting spiced apple candles and shopping for puffer vests as a celebration. I'm looking forward to cooking at home again after eating out for so long.

Feeling

Anxious. Hopeful. Content. Inspired. Anxious, for my first day of work. Hopeful for my future in Seattle, I feel that I'm finally getting into my groove here. I'm content with my goals I've set for the next year. Finally, I'm inspired by my vacation to get MOVING and start working out again. The past couple of months have involved a significant amount of indulgence and I've already started scaling back on the treats and amping up my workout routine.

Reading

10% Happier by Dan Harris. Actually, I finished it on vacation while poolside. It took me a couple of tries to really sink my teeth into this book. The first 40 pages were not as grabbing as I would have liked, but I promise you that it is worth the read. In fact, I might read it over again just make sure I take it all in. I plan on writing a full post about my favorite quotes from the book.

While in Napa, must drink wine!

Watching

Suits! This is more CJ's show than mine, but he's roped me in. It's easy to fall in love with the characters in this show. I also watched the Danish Girl, which was excellent! Very touching, eye opening, and heart wrenching. I think movies like that are few and far between these days.

Listening to

ALL THE PODCASTS! They are so addicting and easy to get lost into. TED Radio Hour has some of my favorite thought provoking episodes, most recently my favorites include Big Data Revolution and Failure is an Option. Undisclosed has a new season reviewing the trial of Joey Watkins and its fascinating. Radiolab has an episode titled, Playing God which has to be the most fascinating podcast I've ever listened to. It discusses what happened in one specific hospital during hurricane Katrina and how they determined who would be saved and who would be left behind. As a health care provider I found this topic terrifying and hard to listen to with so many grey areas. If you're interested in the philosophy of ethics or the history of hurricane Katrina I definitely suggest this episode, just have a box of tissues handy.

Working on

Photography! The blog! Time management. So many of my daylight hours go to waste and I'm trying to learn how to delegate my time better to focus on the blog and pictures.

Goals

Take a photography class. Work on mindfullness by meditating ten minutes a day. Cut back on checking social media. Waking up when my alarm goes off and not hitting snooze 25 times...

I hope you find some time to be in the moment today.
